Hotel Taj Mahal - The heritage it used to be.....

They came, they saw, they conquered. It all happened in a minute and seemed to have lasted up to eternity. What happened in Mumbai was not a one day planned attack. It took time to shape up and then be executed.

The top notch hotels of India became easy target to young bunch of kids termed terrorists. They chose the heritage of India, the Taj Mahal hotel, including Oberoi hotel and NAriman house. But when we say Taj we can always picture that palace type monument standing in front of the Gateway of India.

They entered it and took the guests there as hostages, killing some and sparing some. It was a moment full of fear and havoc. The young terrorists were fully prepared with satellite phones, launchers, grenades, guns. Every element of destruction was available with them.

Hotel Taj witnessed it all. It saw them kill and shed blood on its marbled floor. It saw bombs being exploded in its rooms and galleries. It was put on fire each day. The valuables were being destroyed and the interiors succumbed to the fire. With the passing of every minute the terrorists were there, Taj was being destroyed.

Today finally after a long wait the Taj is free from terrorists but after paying a heavy cost. It will never remain the same. The building is partly now black due to fire and bombing. It has got bullet holes here and there. A lot of destruction and damage has been done to it and it will definitely take a lot of time to get it repaired.

It is India’s heritage and in a way it payed the price of being so. India government has to see that terrorism do not spread its wings in our country. A strict code has to be brought in to restrict their activities or else we will lose many more heritage structures in the near future….

I had the good fortune of visiting and staying in the Taj Mahal Palace twice. The hotel itself is like a monument with ultra-modern facilities and some great interiors. It is perhaps one of the finest hotels in the world. It broke my heart into a million pieces to see the death and destruction there.

My heart goes out to the victims of this ghastly act.

I’m so rooting for India.
